Giving Through Lutheran World Relief

Pastor Berggren holds one of the quilts before saying a prayer
and blessing on the quilts to be sent to LWR

For the Sunday, November 6th church service, the quilts made by the quilting ladies during the past year were displayed on the pews.  After the service, blankets were made available for sale.  Monies from the sale of 21 quilts are used to purchase supplies for the next sewing year.  A large donation was from these sales was sent to Lutheran World Relief to help defray shipping costs.

On November 7th, the remaining quilts were boxed, labeled and delivered to Lincoln, Nebraska at a central in-gathering location.  From there, the Lutheran World Relief items are taken to warehouses in Minneapolis, Minnesota where they are prepared for shipment to locations all around the globe.  From the  LWR website:  In 2010, LWR sent $11.8 million worth of LWR Quilts & Kits to 838,302 people in 24 different countries.

The quilting ladies reported shipping 98 quilts and 11 spreads to LWR.

In addition, the Faith-Hope Circle collected items for 32 Health Kits and shipped these along with 75 bars of soap.  Health Kits include items like this:

The Tabitha Circle gathered items for School Kits and was able to ship 45 kits as well as supplying local schools with some of the school items that could be given to children in need.  The High School Sunday School class assemble the school items into the kits that will be given to Lutheran World Relief.
