Mission Focus - Helping Those In Need

Martin Luther Church started their second of three Mission Focus periods for the year.  The focus and goals for this mission period were aimed at helping the homeless and needy.  We worked with Open Door Mission in Omaha, Nebraska and People's City Mission in Lincoln, Nebraska to achieve our goals.  During this period, we collected monetary donations and tangible items (canned food, towels, twin sheets and toiletries) which were delivered for distribution to the needy in Lincoln and Omaha.  In addition, members were encouraged to serve as volunteers at the two Missions.

On Friday, August 10th a group of ten members traveled to Omaha to work at the Open Door Mission.  Their duties included sacking over 1000 lunches for afternoon distribution to the needy in many areas in Omaha.  The group also worked a couple of hours in the kitchen preparing food for upcoming meals at the shelter.  After the work at the Mission, the group ate lunch at Table Grace Cafe in Omaha.

The group also delivered 10 quilts made by the MLC Sewing Group to the homeless shelter.  Several of the residents expressed their gratitude for the beautiful quilts!
