You Are Mine - The Banner Tradition

But now, this is what the LORD says-he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name;
you are mine.~Isaiah 43:1

The baptismal banners at Martin Luther Church are based upon the above verse quoted from Isaiah.    The banner tradition was started by the Tabitha Circle back in 1985 at the same time their circle was formed.  After 25 years of banner making they've just presented their 87th banner.

Members of the Tabitha Circle set aside a meeting night to make a few banners ahead now and then.  The name and date of the baptized will be added shortly before the baptism.

Shown are: Lois Bohling & Pat Rippe cutting the letters for the upcoming banners.

Pictured here are:  Sherrie Behrends, Deb Pugh and Becky Rippe gluing the parts of the banner together.

Members of the Tabitha Circle are proud of this 25 year tradition and enjoy making the banners for the MLC Baptisms.

A little trivia - Tracie Grotrian and Danielle Broady were both baptized in 1985, the year the banner tradition began. They were the first and sixth recipients, respectively, of the first created banners in 1985.
Fast forward to twenty-five years later and the Tabitha Circle still prepares baptismal banners.
Yes, they are still made in the same exact design ; )
Baker Shay Beethe and Weston Randall Niss,
Tracie and Dani's newborn sons,
were presented banners at their baptisms in August, 2010.

The LORD continues to proclaim, from generation to generation,
"Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name;
you are mine.
